Small pieces of paper taking over your desk? Use Shoeboxed to manage receipts and business cards before surrendering your desk to these rapidly growing piles. You can mail, scan or use your phone to send off receipts and business cards and Shoeboxed will organize the information into a usable format.
Shoeboxed has different plans that all come with a free trial. While the classic plan seems to be the most popular, the business plan is probably a better option for professional use. With the business plan, you can mail in up to 500 receipts and business cards each month in Shoeboxed prepaid envelopes. You’ll have access to the free iPhone app and you can upload unlimited documents to your account yourself. You’ll get backup CDs of your scanned documents quarterly and Shoeboxed will return your mailed-in business cards and receipts to you.
Once your receipts are accessible from your account, you can sort the information by store name, date and purchase total. You can export this information to programs such as Quickbooks, Excel or Quicken. Shoeboxed also says that your scanned receipts will be accepted by the IRS when it’s tax time.
Be aware that stapled, heavily wrinkled and taped receipts can cause delays in processing time. If you have some receipts in bad condition, we recommend either using the iPhone app or scanning them in yourself.
