Mark Your Business Territory

LegalZoom can help you build your business's brand and reputation by making it easy to register your trademark. You’ll set yourself apart from competitors and once registered, no one can use your creations for their own benefit.

A trademark is your logo, symbol or business name. By registering and making it official, you’ll stay consistent when representing your business. Start by first completing LegalZoom’s online questionnaire. It gives you the option of trademarking your company name, brand name, service name or logo.

If you already have a logo that you use, you’ll need to send that image to LegalZoom to make sure it doesn’t conflict with an existing trademark in the federal trademark database. Next, the service will create your federal application and send it to you to electronically sign. After you sign, LegalZoom will file with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. You’ll be notified when your application has been accepted.

LegalZoom says that the Patent and Trademark Office takes about six months to review an application to see if a trademark qualifies to be registered. If there are no problems, the trademark will be included in the Official Gazette and you can expect an official registration certificate after about 12 months.

Before signing up, we recommend evaluating your situation. If your case is anything more than straight-forward, we suggest hiring an attorney. Also, be aware that we’ve come across some negative feedback concerning LegalZoom's customer support.
